Frequently asked questions about Billy Harris roofing

  • How often should I have my roof inspected?

Regular inspections are recommended at least once a year, especially after severe weather events like hailstorms. However, you may require a professional assessment sooner if you notice leaks, stains, sagging areas or missing shingles.

  • Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Everyone in our crew is licensed and insured to guarantee optimal performance. We’ve been working with the same professionals for over 30 years, and we have won many Angie’s List Super Service Awards for their exceptional craftsmanship and customer service.

  • Do I have to pay my deductible?

Yes, HB 2102, a Texas law requiring homeowners to pay the full insurance deductible required by their insurance policy, went into effect in 2019. It’s a class B misdemeanor for a contractor to waive, absorb, rebate, credit or even outright pay your deductible. Allowing a contractor to help you “avoid” paying your deductible constitutes insurance fraud, which could be charged as a misdemeanor or felony depending on the amount.

  • How often should I replace my roof?

The exact time frame depends on the materials used. Traditional asphalt shingle roofs can last as long as 20 years before needing to be replaced, while higher-quality materials can last even longer. Tile and slate roofs can last for nearly a century if properly maintained and not subjected to extreme weather events like severe hail. However, if brutal weather damages your roof and cuts that lifespan short, we’ll replace it promptly and thoroughly to maintain its long-lasting quality.

  • Do you offer a roofing warranty?

Yes. We provide our customers with a five-year workmanship warranty to ensure your roof is well-protected for the foreseeable future and to reassure our customers that the services they receive are nothing but our best.

  • Do you offer financing options?

Yes. You should be able to maintain your roof without breaking the bank. Call us at (817) 249-3338 to discuss financing options. We also have claims specialists who can help you file a claim with your insurance if necessary.

  • Can I repair my roof myself, or should I hire a professional?

No – even minor repairs like replacing a shingle shouldn’t be attempted on your own. Just the process of nailing in a shingle can potentially compromise your roof and lead to leaks if the materials or methods used aren’t appropriate. This is why it’s best to trust properly trained, licensed and insured roofers for any roof repairs. Hiring professional roofers also means you’re covered by a warranty if problems do arise.

  • What is the difference between re-roofing and a complete roof replacement?

Re-roofing involves adding a new layer of shingles over the existing roof and is often faster and less expensive. This is not the recommended solution for increasing the lifespan of your roof for several reasons. Most importantly, it’s just putting a bandage on a more serious issue. That bandage is also expensive and may not be that much more affordable than a proper roof replacement. If you’re a homeowner, it’s likely in your best interest to just invest in roof replacement.

  • What should I do if I notice a leak in my roof?

Leaks should always be addressed promptly. Failure to do so may not only result in damage to your personal property, drywall and ceiling but could also lead to mold growth, which is an entirely separate and expensive issue to address. Billy Harris Roofing is the company to call for Benbrook homeowners who have discovered a leak in their home. We’ll get it diagnosed and fixed as soon as possible.

  • Do I need to be home during the roof repair or replacement process?

No, you don’t have to be at home. Many people go to work or run errands to avoid the noise of the process. In other cases, homeowners may want to take their pets or children to another location, as the noise of roof replacement can be anxiety-inducing for your smaller family members. However, having someone home to answer questions or communicate with roofers if the need arises isn’t always a bad idea.

  • How does a roof inspection work?

During a roof inspection, whether it’s a normal roof inspection or an emergency roof inspection, your roofer should go up on your roof and inspect it for damage and wear, checking the flashing and inspecting the overall material quality. They may circle shingle bruises or damage from hail and take photos for help filing claims. You should expect thoroughness and significant documentation from your roofer’s inspection.

  • What are the signs that my roof needs to be repaired or replaced?

First, it’s important to establish how you should look for signs of damage that require roof repair or replacement. It’s best to avoid climbing onto your roof and walking on it, as this can be dangerous and make damage worse. Instead, observe your roof from the ground and look for obvious signs of damage like missing, cracked or curling shingles, significant granule loss, visible sagging and signs of water damage under the roof line. Be sure not to look from just your front yard or driveway–walk around your home from a slight distance if possible. If you do notice signs of damage, contact the Frisco roofers at Billy Harris Roofing for a proper roofing inspection.
